Disability Management: QA & Certification

To ensure the quality and consistency of services provided both by Authorized Service Providers and by employers, Clarke Brown provides a program of certification and quality assurance. Our program is designed to encourage professional improvement through both self-review and balanced feedback from an external source.

What is Certification?
Certification is the formal recognition of competence of a Step By Step® Facilitator or Coordinator to perform to certain established service standard levels.

Who is eligible to be certified?
Anyone who has taken the Step By Step Facilitator or Coordinator training, and is currently practicing in that role with a Licensed Service Provider of Clarke, Brown Associates Ltd.

How do I enroll?
If you have already indicated an interested in becoming certified by filling out the training certificate form, you will be contacted by Clarke Brown's Quality Assurance Manager to begin the process. If you have not filled out the form, cannot remember if you have filled out the form, or have changed your contact information, you can contact qa@safetynet.ca to ensure you will be included in the certification process.

What do I have to do to be certified?
  1. Enrol and pay the administration fee.
  2. You will then be contacted by the Quality Assurance Manager (QAM) to discuss any questions you have about the process.
  3. At least three times throughout the calendar year, the QAM will randomly request that you email your last documented Step By Step activity.
  4. After the QAM has had an opportunity to review the documentation you supply, you will be contacted to arrange a time to receive feedback.
  5. After successfully receiving positive feedback on a sufficient number of documented activities, you will be certified. There will be ample opportunity for Facilitators and Coordinators to fine tune report writing skills and receive feedback. However, should notes and feedback indicate that progress is not being made, retraining and subsequent re-certification will be required.

How long is the certification good for?

Certification is never a static process. Facilitators and Coordinators who have been certified must participate in re-certification on a yearly basis. Facilitators and Coordinators maintain certification by:
  1. continuing to uphold the Step By Step standards and model of disability management,
  2. committing to improve the quality of their skills and by submitting a randomly-requested documentation of activities and decisions in the year following certification, and
  3. applying for re-certification every year.
